S2 Security Corporation Releases S2 NetBoxT IP-based Integrated Security Management System
First Network Appliance for Physical Security Management Leverages Existing
Network Infrastructure to Deliver a Scalable, Low-Cost Solution for Single Facilities
and Multi-Site Organizations
WELLESLEY, Mass. - June 14, 2004 - S2 Security Corporation (S2) today announced the availability of its pioneer product -- the S2 NetBox . The S2 NetBox is the first physical security man agement system to integrate access control, alarm monitoring, video, intercom and temperature monitoring applications in a small-form factor network appliance, eliminating the need for a PC server. The S2 NetBox utilizes a new system architecture that moves advanced physical security capabilities to the network edge. This architecture makes it possible to deploy systems of various sizes that scale from single facilities to multi-site organizations -- all connected over a network.
Unlike other integrated security systems, the S2 NetBox uses existing LAN, WAN, and Internet connectivity in place of proprietary wiring. Users interact with the S2 NetBox through a Web browser, making it unnecessary to install or maintain software on any PC server or client -- a feature that S2 calls " zero-footprint software install". The S2 NetBox's network connectivity and browser-based user interface also make the system completely independent of geography, enabling users and system integrators to monitor, control and maintain the S2 NetBox from any computer at any time. Because the browser interface looks and operates like a web site, users adapt to it with little training.
"The S2 NetBox's network architecture not only allows for remote system administration, but for remote maintenance as well. We can diagnose and fix most problems from our office in less time than it takes a man in a truck to get to the site," noted James McStay of Bay State Alarm, a systems integrator who installed one of the beta S2 NetBox systems. "Additionally, S2's built-in network diagnostic tools allow me to update all of the software in the S2 NetBox from anywhere. S2's network appliance virtually eliminates the ' midnight ' maintenance nightmares of traditional systems."
The ease-of-use of the S2 NetBox is augmented by its high-reliability, high-availability solid-state design. In addition, because the intelligence of the S2 NetBox system is fully distributed, minimal network bandwidth is required for operation, and network outages are tolerated without data loss.
"The NetBox is an affordable solution that stands out from the rest of the offerings in its class because of the full integration of its applications and its video monitoring features," said John Moss , president and CEO, S2 Security Corporation. "And, while its application capabilities are comparable to those of much larger systems, its solid-state design makes it less costly to acquire, install, and maintain. For these reasons, systems integrators and end-users will find it to be a truly compelling offering."
S2 NetBox Product Features
Currently, the S2 NetBox is available in a locking metal enclosure typical in the security industry. A 1U rack mount option will be available later this year. The S2 NetBox features an Intel ® processor with an integrated encryption co-processor running the Linux operating system and an integrated four-port network switch. In addition, plug-in modules from S2 support access card readers, alarm and temperature inputs, and relay outputs.
The S2 NetBox's initial release supports and integrates three primary physical security applications: access control, alarm monitoring, and video monitoring. The intercom and temperature monitoring applications will be available later this year.
S2 NetBox Access Control
The S2 NetBox provides access control capabilities for up to 64 card readers per network controller and a 20,000-card population. Advanced features such as photo ID recall, activation and expiration, vehicle data storage, and more come standard. S2 NetBox Access Control features also include administrative functions such as temporary card issuance, remote card enrollment, and an advanced natural language report query tool.
S2 NetBox Alarm Monitoring
S2 NetBox Alarm Monitoring supports proprietary and central station monitoring for up to 500 points. The Monitoring Desktop feature delivers a complete view of security status including alarm and access events, and associated video via a Web browser. Graphical floor plans with integrated controls are provided through the browser interface to enhance remote monitoring. SMS text messages and email can also be generated in response to alarms, and a complete audit trail of alarm events and associated actions is available through the system's reporting function.
S2 NetBox Video
S2 NetBox Video integrates video monitoring with the access control and alarm monitoring applications, and delivers the result through a common Web browser. Video is provided by IP cameras connected directly to the network. Full support for PTZ functions, video sequences, presets, and multi-camera views is provided for up to 16 cameras per network controller. The advanced video proxy server reduces bandwidth requirements and simplifies remote video access. An optional network-attached video storage server and video search will be available in late summer.
Availability
The S2 NetBox will be available for delivery beginning June 30, 2004 through the company's network of systems integrators and approved OEMs. Those interested in carrying the S2 product line should email sales@s2sys.com or call (781) 237-0800, x222. For more information please visit www.s2sys.com.
