July 2009: ASIS 2009, the industry’s major domestic trade event, will be the venue for the introduction of the S2 NetBox Extreme.  Like other systems in the S2 NetBox line, the Extreme is completely solid state - with no moving parts - and without the requirement for fans or special ventillation.  But what makes the NetBox Extreme so, well, extreme, is the use of Intel’s new Atom processor.  The Atom is Intel’s smallest processor and is designed for use in miniaturized mobile and networked devices.  The Extreme runs the standard S2 NetBox software suite at more than 10X the speed of the current S2 Network Controller platform, making it suitable for larger applications while retaining the advantages of solid state architecture.

The S2 NetBox Extreme will be available for shipment concurrent with its introduction at ASIS in San Diego this September.  The operating system is BSD Unix, the same platform used in the current line of S2 Enterprise systems.  A trade-up program will be offered for existing S2 NetBox owners who want to take advantage of this new, more scalable platform.
